Edinburgh Napier University is a leading, modern university committed to the highest standards of excellence in teaching, learning, research and knowledge transfer. Within the University, the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Creative Industries offers a wide range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of product design, creative arts, engineering, electronics, multi-media technology, computing, information science, software design and the built environment. Our research and knowledge exchange activity with enterprise continues to grow apace. The Faculty is exceptionally successful in working with entrepreneurs and small to medium size enterprises. The School of Engineering and the Built Environment provides technology transfer routes between the University and industry through focused service centres including the Institute for Product Design and Manufacture; the EDTC Technology Gateway; Electronics Manufacturing Services; the Scottish Advanced Manufacturing Centre; the Scottish Energy Centre; the Advanced Materials Centre; the Transport Research Institute and the Centre for Timber Engineering.

Our award winning industry facing technology transfer centre the EDTC Technology Gateway has successfully mentored entrepreneurs and small to medium size enterprises through the strategic product development cycle for over ten years. Our technology mentoring service delivers support to anyone involved in the design and development of new products and the evolution of existing innovative products. We provide:

  • Free one-to-one technical advice and support to help you evaluate your product concept; identify appropriate technologies and materials; fill gaps in expertise; and mentoring through the full development process.
  • Feasibility Grant Awards to evaluate the technical or commercial feasibility of your product.
  • Support to identify suitable grant funding opportunities and practical hands-on help with your funding application.
  • Awareness seminars and workshops throughout Scotland covering the technologies, tools and techniques appropriate to you.
  • Access to expertise of the highest standard through our long established links with both academia and industry.
